Daphne-Ariane Simotta

Daphne-Ariane Simotta (born April 30, 1947 in Vienna ) is an Austrian lawyer and former professor at the University of Graz .

Life

Simotta is of Greek descent on her father's side. She passed her Matura in Vienna in 1965 and then studied law at the University of Vienna from the winter semester 1965/66 . After problems due to her foreign descent during the examination and the granting of Austrian citizenship, she finished her law studies in 1969 and followed it up with an economics degree. In April 1970 she did her doctorate in Vienna on Dr. iur. From 1971 to 1992, Simotta worked as a research assistant to Winfried Kralik at the Institute for Civil Court Proceedings at the University of Vienna. In November 1972 she completed her economics studies with a master's degree; from 1976 to 1977 she completed her court year .

In March 1985, Simotta completed her habilitation in Vienna in the subject "Civil Court Proceedings" with the text Organizational and Jurisdiction Problems of Family Justice in Austria . This made her the first woman to do her habilitation in this subject at an Austrian university. In 1987 she received the Theodor Körner Prize for this work . On October 1, 1989, she was appointed assistant professor at the University of Vienna. From September 1st, 1992 until her retirement, she was full professor for civil litigation at the University of Graz . This made her the first full professor at the law faculty of the University of Graz.

Works and works (selection)

Simotta's work covers all parts of civil procedural law, especially the Austrian and the regulations of the European Union in this regard. Among other things, she commented on the EuGVVO and the EuEheVO .
