The Louise-Schroeder-Platz is located in Berlin-Wedding at the junction Seestraße  / Reinickendorferstrasse ( B96 ) / Oslo road . The two-part square is separated by the B 96 and covers a total area of 8078 m².

To the west of the square is a sports and leisure center, which, in addition to the Louise Schroeder sports hall built in 1957, includes the Seestrasse combined pool, which was completed in 1980/1981 .

history

In the Hobrecht plan of 1862, today's Louise-Schroeder-Platz was designed in the shape of a star as Platz H, Dept. X / 2. On the occasion of the visit of King Oskar II of Sweden in 1905, the square was named Oskarplatz , just like many streets in the area (including the adjacent Christianiastraße , now: Osloer Straße) were given names with reference to Scandinavia .

In 1923, Rudolf Germer laid out a horticultural ornament facility, as it has not been possible to prevent “wild wagons” from dumping rubbish and the like on the square. Germer chose a symmetrical structure through hedges and designed ornamental beds with a strict architectural arrangement, as well as seating niches and rose arches. Together with the water basin in the eastern area, this design has largely been preserved to this day.

After the largely undamaged square was repaired in 1949, it was named on June 4, 1958 by the then governing mayor Willy Brandt after Louise Schroeder , the first female mayor of the post-war period .

Since the square has increasingly run down in recent decades, it is to be renovated in 2017/2018 for 920,000 euros. Essentially, the creation of new paths and squares from water-bound path coverings, mosaic paving and granite slabs as well as the creation of new lawns and wooded areas are planned, as well as the renovation of the pond system. The end of the last work is planned for October 2018. [outdated]
