Dario is the name of one of two genera of the family of blue perch . The representatives of this genus are very small freshwater fish with a maximum body length of 2.5 cm. Dario species are found in South Asia in small bodies of water in the Brahmaputra and Irrawaddy catchmentsin India, Myanmar, and southern China.
description
From Badis , the other genus of the blue perch, the animals differ in their smaller size, the lack of a spot on the base of the caudal fin, a lack of under-eye stripe, the absence of teeth on the basibranchial (bones at the base of the gill arch) and the basihyale (a Element between the hyoid bone) and the absence of pores of the sensory system on the lower jaw bone. Pored scales on the sidelines are also absent. The pelvic fins of the males are elongated and reach over the base of the first anal fin ray. In contrast to Badis , the males of Dario do not take part in brood care, but only defend the territory.
