Dario Knežević (born April 20, 1982 in Rijeka ) is a Croatian football player . He is currently under contract with the Croatian first division club HNK Rijeka .

Career

In the club

He started Dario Knežević's career in the first Croatian league at HNK Rijeka. The central defender played 121 league games for this club, was a regular for four seasons and won the Croatian Cup in 2005 and 2006.

In the summer of 2006, Knežević moved to the Italian club AS Livorno , where he signed a three-year contract. After initial adjustment difficulties, the defender was able to fight for a regular place in Serie A and played 35 games for the club from Livorno in the 2007/08 season , in which he scored three goals and prepared one goal. Despite the relegation of his team, Dario Knežević was one of the club's outstanding players and recommended himself for a place in the national team for the 2008 European Championship.

In the summer of 2008, Knežević was committed by Juventus Turin , who initially loaned him for 700,000 euros . Since he only played three league games at Juventus and the record champions did not take the purchase option of 1,500,000 euros, the Croatian played again at Livorno from 2009. In 2012 he returned to his home country at HNK Rijeka .

In the national team

Dario Knežević has already made ten appearances for the Croatian national team . Against the national soccer team of Hong Kong he scored his only goal so far in February 2006. At the European Championship in 2008 in Austria and Switzerland , Knežević played three games for Croatia. In the last group game against Poland , he suffered an injury after 25 minutes that ended the European Championship early for him.
