Darius Nggawa

Darius Nggawa SVD (born May 1, 1929 in Nggela , Indonesia , † January 9, 2008 in Maumere ) was Roman Catholic Bishop of Larantuka on Flores in Indonesia.

Life

Darius Nggawa joined the religious order of Steyler Missionaries (SVD) and was ordained a priest on October 12, 1955 .

In 1974 he was appointed by Pope Paul VI. appointed bishop of the Larantuka diocese , a diocese at the eastern end of the island of Flores and belonging to the Indonesian province of East Nusa Tenggara . He was ordained bishop on June 16, 1974, by his predecessor Antoine Hubert Thijssen ; Co- consecrators were Donatus Djagom , Archbishop of Endeh, and Vitalis Djebarus , Bishop of Denpasar. In 2003 Pope John Paul II accepted Darius Nggawa's resignation.

He campaigned against the increasing violence and corruption in Indonesia. He was one of the key supporters of the AsIPA (Asia Integral Pastoral Approach) initiative.
