Darker than Black: Ryūsei no Gemini ( Japanese Darker Than Black- 流星 の 双子 - , dt. "Darker than Black: Gemini des Meteor ") is an anime television series directed by Tensai Okamura in the animation studio Bones . It is a sequel to the Darker than Black series and was first shown on Japanese television in October 2009 .

action

The second season focuses on the young girl Suō, who grew up in Russia , Vladivostok . There she lives with her separated father and her brother Shion, who is a contractor and is hidden in the house. According to a prediction by Amber, it is called Izanagi and, when it meets Yin, called Izanami, is said to lead to the creation of a new world. (Compare Izanagi and Izanami ) To prevent this, or to use this possibility again as a weapon against the contractors, they try to bring Shion into their power. Meanwhile, Yin is being held captive by the Japanese government, more precisely by Section 3, and used as a weapon against contractors by turning the skills of the contractors against themselves.

Given this situation, it doesn't take long to track down Shion. However, Shion left his hiding place in time and since then has been directing Suō on her way to Japan to Hell's Gate. In doing so, however, she is tracked down by the aged Hei, who ultimately realizes that she is not Shion. Since then he has accompanied Suō on the way. During some incidents, however, the ability of a contractor awakens in Suō as well. They are also accompanied by July, a doll who, due to Suō's affection, gradually develops its own consciousness like Yin. They are also accompanied by Mao, who has taken over the body of a Momonga , a kind of flying squirrel . So they are on a long journey during which they are repeatedly harassed by the parties and Suō is trained by Hei.

Suō, who is mistakenly mistaken for her brother Shion, has to discover after meeting her mother that she is only a copy of the long deceased real Suō or that it never existed before. As a contractor, Shion has the ability to create a copy of something / that. Shion gave her false memories so that Suō would not find out what happened to her. Nevertheless, Suō tries to find her brother, but like Hei cannot prevent Izanagi and Izanami from meeting . Shion dies if his ability is overused. When Yin finally lets himself be killed by Hei, a new world emerges in which Suō, as a normal girl, lives with her parents who live together and goes to school.

Emergence

Much of the work involved in the anime television series is the same as in the first season. So led Tensai Okamura directed the studio Bones animated series. The design of the characters was taken over by Yūji Iwahara and further developed by the animation director Takahiro Komori . The artistic directors were Tomoaki Okada and Takashi Aoi , with Takashi from Studio Green taking over the supervision. In contrast to the first season, the music this time was composed by Yasushi Ishii and not by Yoko Kanno as before .

Publications

A document about the plans of Bones was already known in advance , according to which a second season of Darker than Black should arise. The Excel spreadsheet published in July 2008 contained both the information about Ryūsei no Gemini and the remake of Fullmetal Alchemist . However, the chairman of the studio Masahiko Minami announced in a public statement that no such document was created within Bones. In an interview with Anime News Network , however, he admitted that a continuation of the two series would be interesting for the studio, as the two futuristic series would leave a lot of room for further development. While the remake had already been confirmed, there was also confirmation for Ryūsei no Gemini in the 12th issue of Young Gangan Magazine by Square Enix . More details, including the actual title of the series, are provided by the magazine in its 14th issue when it announced that the anime should start on Japanese television in October 2009.

Since October 8, 2009, the series has been on Japanese television on MBS . TBS began broadcasting a day later, and finally Chubu-Nippon Broadcasting on October 21st .
