Darren James (born February 25, 1965 in Detroit ; real name Darren Keith Edwards ; not to be confused with the actor James Darren ) is a former American porn actor .

James was initially an active member of the US Navy and began his career as a porn actor in 1997 after he was unable to take up employment with the police for health reasons after completing his service . In 2000 he failed to return to civil life, to which the death of his brother had forced him. The African-American James was dissatisfied with his professional situation as a supporting actor, since he was only available for low-paid jobs in predominantly interracial porn films such as Little White Chicks and Big Black Monster Dicks 15 (translated roughly: "Little white chicks and big black monster tails - part 15") was engaged. After a brief termination of his professional career in the porn film industry, he resumed his work as an actor. At the beginning of 2004 he had his breakthrough. The porn actor and porn film producer of the company Evasive Angels TT Boy offered him a contract for more prestigious film productions. This made it possible for him to find adequate roles in e.g. Partly commercially promising productions aimed at an international audience.

One of these took him to Brazil for the period from February 25, 2004 to March 17, 2004, where he contracted the HI virus while shooting a porn film with the Brazilian actress Bianca Biaggi during unprotected anal intercourse . In the first three weeks after his return to Los Angeles - when the virus had not yet been diagnosed - James starred in other films. When filming Split That Booty 2 on March 24, 2004, he passed the virus on to his colleagues Lara Roxx , Miss Arroyo and Jessica Dee , again during unprotected anal sex. When it became known on April 10, 2004 that Darren James had tested positive for HIV and the diagnosis was final on April 13, it rocked the American porn film industry. This was the first incident in four years in the San Fernando Valley, which to date was considered to be particularly low-risk due to its high security standards. The Darren James case made it clear, however, that the danger from the outside for the actors is not averted, since the same high standards apply in other countries as the Adult Industry Medical Health Care Foundation established in cooperation with the production companies in California . Production in the San Fernando Valley had to be stopped for a month in order to clarify possible ways in which the virus could spread and to rule out further infections.

By the time his infection became known, Darren James starred in 250 films, making him one of the most active actors in the industry. He withdrew from the public eye and is now the director of the DVD series Big Butt Smashdown .
