content

The game begins in 1940 during the Second World War in Poirot's detective agency in London , who tells his friend Arthur Hastings about this case. Hercule Poirot is on vacation on Seadrift Island in Devon . There is a murder, Arlena Stuart Marshall is dead. The police are called, Colonel Weston is the chief of police in the nearest town Lethercomb on the mainland. Poirot begins investigating the Colonel, who is an older friend of his. The guests of the hotel on the island are interviewed. At the scene of the crime, Poirot discovers a hidden cave in which he finds a can of heroin . He continues to determine which hotel guest could commit this murder, most guests have an alibi . Only Stephen Lane, Major Barry and Horace Blatt have no alibi. Another murder many years earlier had some similarities to this case, Alice Corrigan was previously strangled and the killer was never found. Poirot can prove that Patrick Redfern, one of the guests of the hotel, is Edward Corrigan and that he murdered Arlena. He and his wife Christine are arrested as urgent suspects. Christine pretended to be Arlena and lay down on the beach, apparently dead. As Patrick and another guest of the hotel rowed past the beach, they saw Christine, disguised as Arlena, lying on the beach and got help. Patrick went into the cave, strangled Arlena, and laid her on the beach. The motive for the notorious female murderer and his accomplice: money and jewels that they stole from the murdered.

In contrast to the two other Christie adaptations by The Adventure Company ( Murder on the Orient Express and And Then There Were None ), the plot of the game is based closely on parts of the novel , in particular the same perpetrators are presented at the end and the player does not control any character not mentioned in the novel, but for the first time directly the detective Hercule Poirot . The main difference to the novel is that Hercule Poirot has already experienced the plot in the game and describes it to his friend Hastings in retrospect. In several sequences, the player takes control of Captain Hastings in Poirot's London apartment and can thus influence the solution of the case in various ways.

Game principle and technology

Evil Under the Sun is a 2.5D point-and-click adventure . For polygons composite, three-dimensional figures act against pre-rendered scenes. The player can use the mouse to move his character through the locations and use the mouse buttons to initiate actions that allow the character to interact with his environment. Poirot can find objects, apply them to the environment or other objects and communicate with NPCs . As the story progresses, more locations will be unlocked. The locations are pre-rendered still images. Communication with the NPCs takes place via multiple choice menus.
