The poem. Leaves for Poetry was a magazine published by Heinrich Ellermann from 1933 to 1944 .

history

On July 6, 1934, the philosopher and literary scholar Heinrich Ellermann presented his concept of a comprehensive series of contemporary German literary writers in the magazine Das deutsche Wort . In October 1934 the first edition was finally published for 10 pfennigs . The concept of the magazine was based on the magazine Blätter für die Kunst published by Stefan George . Some of the authors also belonged to the so-called George Circle . Among others, Ernst Bertram , Ludwig Klages and Henry von Heiseler published in the magazine. Ellermann published some of Stefan George's contributions posthumously. Another large group of authors comes from Expressionism , including poems by Georg Trakl , Georg Heym and Ernst Stadler in the series. Theoretical treatises as reprints by, among others, Ernst Wiechert , Paul Alverdes , Egon Vietta and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe were supposed to round off the magazine as a theoretical part, but remained rather the exception.

In 1936 Ellermann explained the concept of the series in the Berliner Tageblatt , which is based on three principles:

  1. to give a picture of contemporary poetry and its impulses in the most fair way possible ;
  2. occasionally depicting what a poem really is ;
  3. promoting young poetry

Although Ellermann considered the last point to be important, he only presented works by authors who “let past literary traditions guide their interpretation of the present”. For the most part, Ellermann refrained from assuming National Socialist positions and provided a forum for controversial authors such as Gottfried Benn .

Taking up this magazine again, Anton G. Leitner and Ludwig Steinherr founded Das Gedicht in 1993 . Journal of poetry, essay and criticism .
