Heinrich Ellermann

Heinrich Ellermann (born February 12, 1905 in Hamburg ; † August 13, 1991 in Vaduz , Liechtenstein ) was a German literary scholar , publisher and founding member of the Liechtenstein PEN Club .

Life

After studying literature, Ellermann aspired to a university career , but the seizure of power by the National Socialists destroyed all efforts in this direction. Instead, he founded the Heinrich Ellermann publishing house in 1934 , which specialized primarily in poetry. From 1934 he gave the literary magazine Das Gedicht. Leaves out for the poetry , which appeared until 1944 and provided a niche for some writers deviating from the party line who had not emigrated, such as Gottfried Benn , Ernst Stadler and Georg Trakl .

After the Second World War , his publishing house specialized in children's and youth literature . In 1957 Ellermann published texts by the poet Nelly Sachs, who lived in exile in Sweden, and from 1961 to 1971 he edited a number of titles by Russian authors in the Small Russian Library . This series was controversial during the Cold War .

In 1978 he took part in the founding of the Liechtenstein PEN Club and was Vice President of it until his death. In his honor, a scholarship was set up to support older writers in particular for a period of nine months. The first scholarship holder was Christine Koschel , whose first work Den Windschädel wear was published by Ellermann in 1961. He was succeeded by Peter Kurzck .
