content

Title of the DVD "The Secret of the Orange Crates"

The film describes the history of the " Central Office of the State Judicial Administrations for Solving National Socialist Crimes " in Ludwigsburg and its surroundings. The “Central Office” was set up at the end of 1958, above all in order to clear up the crimes in German concentration camps and in occupied territories that had previously been completely inadequately investigated . The film describes the difficult working conditions of the few lawyers who were employed for this purpose and, at the same time, the settlement of prominent SS generals in the city.

background

The journalist and filmmaker Jochen Faber researched for this film in numerous German, French and American archives and interviewed contemporary witnesses. In this way he was able to exemplify how the secret admission of Nazi perpetrators into the society of the Federal Republic worked. It tells the story of the often scandalous funeral of a Nazi commander in 1966 with thousands of supporters and the reactions of Nazi victims in the French twin town of Montbéliard . Using the example of the city of Ludwigsburg, he also shows initiatives for an open and critical approach to the crimes committed by Germans in the Nazi regime.

The film was made in 2008 for the 50th anniversary of the “Central Office”. It is now also offered in a short special version for school lessons and in English translation.
