The Hawaii-Preußenfisch ( Dascyllus albis ella ) is a kind from the family of damselfish (Pomacentridae). The fish are endemic to Hawaii and the Johnston Atoll 1000 km south in the north-central Pacific at depths of one to 50 meters. There they replace the closely related three-point Prussian fish ( Dascyllus trimaculatus ).

Hawaiian Prussian fish grow to be four inches long. They are high-backed and have a plain gray base color. Their scales have a dark border and give the fish a characteristic net-like pattern. The head and fins are also dark. They have 18 to 20 scales along the lateral line organ . The number of gill trap processes is 22 to 25.

Way of life

The fish live in corals and rock reefs. Young fish live like anemonefish with the sea ​​anemone Heteractis malu in symbiosis or in and above sticks of the bushy stony coral genus Pocillopora . They feed on zooplankton , small bottom-dwelling invertebrates, and algae. The fish have already been multiplied in the aquarium. They become sexually mature after a year. In their natural habitat, the breeding season is from May to August.
