Dasypoda argentata is a bee from the genus of the trouser bees , the family of Melittidae .

features

The bees have a body length of 14 to 16 millimeters (females) or 13 to 16 millimeters (males). The cheeks of the females are at the narrowest point at least twice as long as the antennae are wide. The abdomen is widened backwards. The hairiness of the animals is different depending on the inhabited region. In Valais, the face and the underside of the thorax are white, the vertex black, the dorsal thorax and the abdomen reddish-yellow. Elsewhere, the head and thorax may be partially or completely hairy with black hair, the hind legs may be largely red-brown hairy. The males have cheeks that are at least as long as the antennae. The face and the underside of the thorax are whitish, the rest of the body is hairy yellow-brown, only the end fringe is reddish-brown. The abdomen has pale end bands on the segments.

Occurrence and way of life

The species is widespread in southern Europe and locally also in central Europe. The animals fly from late June to mid-August. The females build their nests mainly in sandy and loess-containing soils. The species only collects pollen from cardaceae (Dipsacaceae). It is not known which cuckoo bees parasitize the species .
