Datsche is a German movie from 2018 by Lara Hewitt.

action

The student Valentine from New York inherited a dacha in a garden colony near Potsdam . To his surprise, it is already inhabited by Adam, a refugee from Ethiopia. When Valentine invites other very different characters to spend the summer with them, Adam fears for his safe hiding place. In fact, the president of the allotment garden association, Mr. Winter, insists that the rules be observed. Another allotment gardener even sees the demise of German culture imminent and decides to take action - which puts the togetherness in the parceled idyll to the test.

background

The allotment garden shown in the film was managed by the British artist Lara Hewitt from 2012 to 2017, which she did not manage to the satisfaction of the other allotment gardeners. This inspired Hewitt to make her first feature film and the idea of turning this place of retreat into a cultural melting pot .

publication

The film, which was independently produced in Great Britain and shot in Germany, was shown at international film festivals and was released in German cinemas nationwide on October 3, 2019 via UCM.ONE .
