history

After construction began in 1922, the Daugava Stadium in Liepāja was officially opened on June 14, 1925. During the Second World War it was used as an airfield . After the war, a wooden grandstand for 1,000 spectators and new changing rooms with showers were built. In the early 1960s, the wooden grandstand was replaced by a reinforced concrete grandstand with a capacity of 5,000 . Shower, weight and fitness rooms were also added and expanded. The next expansion took place in the 1970s. The audience capacity is now 5,008. It is the home ground of FK Liepājas Metalurgs from Virslīga , and the sports club of the same name SK Liepājas Metalurgs . In addition, international matches of the numerous Latvian national football teams are played in this stadium. Finals for the Latvian Football Cup also took place in the Daugava Stadium.
