Dave Bowler

David Pike "Dave" Bowler (* 1957 in Portland ) is an American jazz musician ( drums ).

Bowler grew up in a family of jazz musicians. At the age of five he received his first drum lessons from his grandfather, who was also a drummer and trombonist. He played mostly rock music during high school , but studied in the Jazz and Popular Music Program at the University of Maine .

During his studies he was a founding member of the jazz rock band The Franklin Street Arterial , with whom he recorded an album in 1980; He also joined several other jazz and swing groups and also accompanied Willie Nelson , Willie Dixon and Kilimandjaro Sound System . In 1983 he moved to New York City. There he played in numerous local jazz, rock, pop, funk and rhythm & blues bands before he became a member of Ahmad Jamal's trio in 1987 , of which he was a member until 1993; he toured the world several times with Jamal and recorded a total of six albums. He also took lessons from Vernel Fournier , Jamal's original drummer.

Bowler then starred on the television show Red, Hot & Cool , hosted by Nancy Wilson in Los Angeles, with guests including George Duke and Stanley Clarke . Since 1995 various European tours with singers such as Lynda Hopkins, Cynthia Utterbach, Joan Faulkner and Veronica Martell followed. Since 2002 he has been a member of Addi Münster ’s Old Merrytale Jazzband ; furthermore he belongs to the joys of jazz . He also worked with Gottfried Böttger , with Bill Ramsey , with Augusto Mancinelli and with Reggie Moore.
