Augusto Mancinelli

Augusto Mancinelli (born December 29, 1953 in Osimo ; † July 20, 2008 ) was an Italian jazz musician ( guitar , composition ).

Live and act

Mancinelli first studied philosophy and played rock music. Since 1976 he has studied jazz guitar with Filippo Daccò at the INSJ in Parma, harmony and composition with Mario Perrucci at the Istituto Pergolesi in Ancona, electronic music with Eugenio Giordani at the G. Rossini Conservatory in Pesaro, classical guitar with Maria Orlandi, experimental composition and analysis with Franco Donatoni, G. Borio, A. Melchiorre, A. Vidolin at the Civica Scuola di Musica in Milan.

In 1980 he gained his first significant jazz experience with the SOJA Quartet and the Marche Jazz Orchestra of Bruno Tommaso , with whom he took part in radio broadcasts. Between 1982 and 1984 he accompanied well-known soloists such as Lee Konitz , Curtis Fuller , Bob Berg , Sam Rivers and Jimmy Owens in Italy. During this time he joined alongside Ares Tavolazzi of and Giulio Capiozzo Rock Jazz group Area of. Between 1984 and 1988 he was a member of Enrico Rava's band , with whom he recorded the albums String Band, Secrets and Animals . In 1986 he also worked with Gil Evans and the RAI Orchestra in Rome.

In the following years he accompanied Tiziana Ghiglioni , Gianni Lenoci and Dragana Jovanovich and increasingly led his own groups; on his debut album Extreme (1990) he worked in a trio with Tony Oxley on drums and Mario Arcari on wind instruments. In 1997 he released his second CD as a leader entitled Jazz Work (with Paolo Ghetti and Massimo Manzi ).

In February 2000 he was recorded with Franco Ambrosetti for 10 programs by Buona Notte on Swiss television. He also played improvised music in a trio with Riccardo Luppi and Tiziano Tononi . With his quartet, which now includes Pietro Tonolo , Paolo Ghetti and Massimo Manzi, he released his third album, Resonances . He also worked in a duo with Paolo Ghetti, which was expanded with Franco Cerri . In a quartet with Roberto Rossi , Paolo Ghetti and Dave Bowler , his last album Tribute to Charlie Parker was created in 2004 , which was released posthumously in 2008.
