Issaak Michailowitsch Zidilkowski ( Russian Исаак Михайлович Цидильковский ; born May 21, 1923 in Rakitnoye, Kyiv Governorate ; † October 30, 2001 in Yekaterinburg ) was a Ukrainian - Russian physicist .

Life

Zidilkowski began studying at the Kiev Industrial Institute in 1940 . At the beginning of the German-Soviet War he went to the front as a volunteer . After the end of the war as a major , he continued his studies in 1946 at the physical - mathematical faculty of the University of Kiev , graduating in 1951. He then worked as a teacher at the Pedagogical Institute Melitopol .

From 1952 Zidilkowski worked at the Dagestan branch of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (AN-SSSR, from 1991 Russian Academy of Sciences (RAN)) in Makhachkala . In 1956 he received his doctorate from the University of Leningrad as a candidate in physical-mathematical sciences .

In 1958 he moved to the Institute of Physics of Metals of the Ural Department of the AN SSSR in Sverdlovsk . In 1959 he received his doctorate in physical-mathematical sciences from the University of Leningrad . In 1960 he organized the laboratory for semiconductors and semi-metals there and headed it from 1961. He investigated the thermomagnetic properties of semiconductors. He discovered coupled thermogalvanomagnetic effects, which include the Ettingshausen effect , the Nernst effect , the Righi-Leduc effect and the photothermomagnetic effect. With his colleagues he investigated quantum effects during transport processes in strong magnetic fields under high pressures . There are optical and magneto-optical properties of semiconductors and effects of microwaves investigated. He predicted and studied the spin -Magneto phonon - resonance in semiconductors as well as the combined Shubnikov-de-Haas resonance. Another focal point was the band gap-less semiconductor and the exciton - phases . He was the author of a large number of specialist publications and monographs .

In 1987 Zidilkowski was elected a corresponding member of the AN-SSSR. In 1994 he became a full member of RAN. In 1995 he retired. A prize of the Urals department of the RAN was named after Zidilkowski.

Zidilkowski was married and had two children.
