Ares Tavolazzi (born July 12, 1948 in Ferrara ) is an Italian fusion and jazz musician ( bass guitar , double bass , composition ).

Act

Tavolazzi studied cello and double bass at the conservatory in his hometown. He began his career as a professional musician as a bassist in a beat band around Carmen Villani ; there he met the drummer Ellade Bandini know. With this and Vince Tempera he formed a band called The Pleasure Machine in 1969 , which released five singles in the following three years. The trio also participated in the recording of Francesco Guccinis L'isola non trovata and Terra in bocca by I Giganti part. After the dissolution of The Pleasure Machine , he became a member of the fusion band Area in 1973 , of which he was a member until 1983.

In 1982 Tavolazzi took part in the Italian tour of the Gil Evans Orchestra with Steve Lacy and Pietro Tonolo . In the same year he was involved as a bassist on the recording of the rock opera Roadissea (Pelo Record). Between 1983 and 2004 he also accompanied Francesco Guccini on all albums as well as in all of his concerts. He also led his own trio. In the mid-1980s she began working with other singers and musicians, including Mina , Eugenio Finardi, Paolo Conte , Paolo Fresu and Vinicio Capossela .

Since 1990 he has increasingly worked with jazz musicians such as Sal Nistico , Max Roach , Phil Woods , Massimo Urbani , Enrico Rava , Franco D'Andrea , Dado Moroni , Enrico Pieranunzi , Roberto Gatto , Danilo Rea , Mike Melillo, Ray Mantilla , Tino Tracanna , Gianni Basso , Simone Graziano or Gianluca Petrella . In 2011 he started a reunion of Area with Paolo Tofani, Patrizio Fariselli and Walter Paoli .

Over the years he has also designed various theater music as a composer and performer. He has also taught at various jazz schools in Italy.

Prizes and awards

For three years, between 1984 and 1986, Tavolazzi led the Guitar Club magazine's special ranking for Italian bass guitarists . In 1987 he won the Premio A. Willaert for best musician of the year.
