David Defries
David Defries (born May 24, 1952 in London ) is a British jazz trumpeter and alto horn player .
Life
Defries sang in the school choir and was a member of the Surrey County Youth Orchestra . He studied for two semesters at Leeds College of Music and completed a few jazz courses. During the 1970s he played in Julian Bahulas Jabula , Don Wellers Major Surgery , Dudu Pukwanas Zila and Bijelo dugme . In 1981 he founded the band Sunwind together with guitarist Mark Wood ; he was a member of Chris McGregor's second and third editions of the Brotherhood of Breath and the Penguin Cafe Orchestra . He also played with Rip, Rig & Panic , with the Charlie Watts Orchestra and with the Loose Tubes . In 1985 he presented his debut album The Secret City , in which Maggie Nicols and Harry Beckett were also involved. He then worked as a studio musician, u. a. with Annie Lennox in The The and Chris Farlowe , and was Dedication Orchestra of Louis Moholo active. He currently plays with the Brotherhood of Breath and No Fear Music .
