Dave Likins

James Dave Likins (* 1956 ) is an American football coach .

Life

Likins attended Center College in the US state of Kentucky until 1980 . There he played football in the position of linebacker and studied history. In 1980 and 1981 he was a member of the coaching staff at Georgetown College in Kentucky, where he looked after the linebackers. From 1982 Likins worked at the University of Kentucky also as an assistant coach. In 1991 and 1992 he was on the coaching staff at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill .

Likins moved to Germany and was there in 1992 and 1993 with the Braunschweig Lions for looking after the defenders and players with special tasks. In 1993 he was involved in this way in the rise of Lower Saxony in the football Bundesliga . From 1998 to 2000 he worked again for the Braunschweiger, who won the Eurobowl (1999) and were German champions twice (1998 and 1999).

From the 2001 season Likins was the Hamburg Blue Devils  defense coordinator. There, like in Braunschweig, he initially worked under head coach Kent Anderson . 2001 Likins contributed to winning the German championship title. At the beginning of July 2002 Anderson was fired in Hamburg, Likins was temporarily head coach, then worked again as the Hamburg defense coordinator after the engagement of John Rosenberg as the new head coach and again won the German championship title with the team in October 2002. In the 2003 season Likins was with the Blue Devils for the third time in a row German champions, for this title he worked as defense coordinator for head coach Kirk Heidelberg .

Likins returned to his home country and in August 2004 took over the position of assistant trainer responsible for the linebackers at Mansfield University (state of Pennsylvania ). In 2006 the game was stopped for cost reasons. Likins then worked at Northville High School, Michigan, and McEachern High School, Georgia . In 2008, the American moved to the Swarco Raiders Tirol coaching staff , where he took over the position of defense coordinator. He won the national championship and the Eurobowl with the team. In the 2009 season he held the position of defense coordinator at the German second division club Hamburg Eagles . Between his assignments in Austria and Germany, he worked at McEachern High School in the USA. In the run-up to the 2011 season, he was introduced as the head coach of the Berlin Adler . Under his leadership, the Adler reached the GFL quarter-finals, where they were eliminated from the eventual title winner Schwäbisch Hall. At the end of September 2011 there was a separation between Likins and the Berliners.

In the 2012 game year Likins was in charge of the defense of the Calanda Broncos in Switzerland and won the Eurobowl with the team and the Swiss championship title without defeat. For the 2013 season he returned to the Braunschweig Lions and became  defense coordinator under head coach Troy Tomlin . In this position, Likins contributed to winning the German championship titles in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2019 as well as to the victories in the Eurobowl in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018.
