Dave Wolverton ( May 30, 1957 in Springfield , IllinoisJanuary 14, 2022 in St. George , Utah ) was an American science fiction writer who used the pen name David Farland for his fantasy novels .

Life

Wolverton began writing short stories in college and entered them into a few writing contests. In 1987 he won first prize in the Scientology competition " Writers of the Future " and sat on the jury of this competition from 1991.

Later, Dalve Wolverton was also nominated for the Philip K. Dick Award (1989) and for the Nebula Award (1996 in the category "Best Novellette ").

David Wolverton was the author of the fantasy series The Rune Lords , which was also to be made into a film. After the first attempt with Warner Bros. failed, Wasatch Films bought the rights.

In addition to his novels, Wolverton also wrote short stories and essays.

He lived with his wife and five children in St. George , Utah , where he succumbed in January 2022 at the age of 64 to severe head injuries sustained in a fall the previous day.
