Club career

David Acevedo began his football career in 1956 with CA Independiente in Avellaneda , an industrial suburb of Argentina's capital Buenos Aires . He played for almost his entire career for Independiente, only in 1969 he left the club for CA Banfield , where he ended his career in the same year. With Independiente, David Acevedo, who played in the position of defender, won the Argentine football championship three times. Acevedo was victorious for the first time together with Independiente in 1960, when the team led by Argentinian football greats like Roberto Ferreiro , José Varacka or Acevedo took first place in the Primera División with two points ahead of CA River Plate . Three years later, in 1963, he won the second title. Again ahead of River Plate, first place was taken again. By winning this title, Independiente was entitled to participate in the Copa Libertadores 1964 , then known as the Copa Campeones de América . The tournament was made victorious by Independiente. In the final they were successful against Nacional Montevideo from Uruguay and were able to win the Copa Libertadores for the first time . This title in the Copa Libertadores was the beginning of a success story in this competition, because to this day Independiente has won the Copa Libertadores seven times, making the club record holder. Acevedo was used in both the 1964 title win and 1965 in the finals of Independiente against Nacional Montevideo and CA Peñarol , but he did not succeed in scoring. In 1967 David Acevedo won his last title with Independiente, when in the first division in Argentina the first place was occupied with two points ahead of Estudiantes de La Plata . After he moved to CA Banfield in 1969, he ended his active career there in the same year at the age of 32.

National team

David Acevedo was used five times in the Argentine national soccer team . All these missions were accounted for in 1967. Without having completed an international match, he was appointed by Argentina's national coach Guillermo Stábile in the squad of the South Americans for the 1958 World Cup in Sweden . However, he was not used in the tournament. Meanwhile, the World Cup ended for the Argentine team after the preliminary round with a last place in Group 1.
