José Varacka (born May 27, 1932 in Buenos Aires , † October 22, 2018 ) was an Argentine football player and later coach.

Player career

Club career

José Varacka began his football career in 1952 with CA Independiente from Avellaneda , an industrial suburb of Argentina's capital Buenos Aires. With Independiente he won while in his eight years at the club no national championship, but was part of the team of Independiente, which at a European trip, the star-studded 1954 Real Madrid to Alfredo Di Stéfano , Miguel Muñoz and Luis Molowny 6: defeated 0th After 202 league games for Independiente, in which he scored two goals, Varacka left the club in 1960 and joined River Plate , the noble club from the capital Buenos Aires. Here, too, he did not succeed in a national championship title, since in the 1960s, Varacka played for River Plate from 1960 to 1965, the dominant clubs in the Primera División were called Boca Juniors , Independiente and Racing Club Avellaneda . The best place with River Plate was a second place in the 1965 season behind big rival Boca Juniors. In the same year Varacka changed clubs again and went to CA San Lorenzo de Almagro , also from Buenos Aires. After a year there he moved to Chile to the current record champions CSD Colo-Colo from Santiago de Chile . There and with the lower class CS Miraflores in Peru , he let his career end until 1967. Then he became a football coach.

National team

In the Argentine national soccer team , José Varacka was used 28 times between 1956 and 1966. From Argentina coach Guillermo Stábile he was appointed to the South American squad for the 1958 World Cup in Sweden . In the tournament, which ended for Argentina with the disappointing end after the preliminary round, Varacka was used in all three games of his team, a goal was not scored as defender Varacka as in all of his international matches. After he was not in the Argentine squad in 1962, he experienced his second world championship with the 1966 World Cup in England . This time the Argentines, who stood out for their overly tough to brutal commitment rather than their joy in playing, reached the quarter-finals, where they failed, however, at the eventual world champions England . Varacka was not used in the tournament.

Coaching career

After the end of his active football career, José Varacka became a football coach. He trained, among other things, first Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata , then the Boca Juniors and later River Plate. In 1981 he only saved the Argentinos Juniors on the last day of the match by beating his former club CA San Lorenzo de Almagro 1-0 from relegation from the Primera División. He stayed with the club for two more years before leaving in 1983. The following year, the Argentinos Juniors became Argentine football champions for the first time. Varacka had never been able to win a title in the Primera División during his entire coaching career or during his active time, only in Colombia he won the Primera División twice . He coached Atlético Junior from Barranquilla four times in the country and won the championship with the club in 1977 and 1980. He was also the assistant coach of Vladislao Cap , who was then the coach of the Argentine national soccer team, at the 1974 World Cup in Germany , where Argentina failed in the second final round.
