Vladislao Wenceslao Cap (born July 5, 1934 in Avellaneda ; † September 14, 1982 ) was an Argentine football player and later coach of Polish descent, who participated both as a player and as a coach in a football World Cup and also celebrated some successes.
Player career
Club career
Vladislao Cap, born in 1934 in Avellaneda , an industrial suburb of Buenos Aires , began playing football in 1952 at the Arsenal de Lavallol club in Buenos Aires. After a year at the small club, he went to Quilmes AC , from where he moved to the Racing Club in his birthplace after another year . At Racing Avellaneda, Cap played together with other football greats of his time such as Pedro Dellacha , Omar Corbatta or Pedro Manfredini and was Argentine football champion in 1958. In the Primera División a first place was occupied with three points ahead of the Boca Juniors . In 1961 he left the club and joined CA Huracán , where he made 27 games in the Primera División in one year and reached tenth place in the table with the club from Bonaren. After the 1961 season he was signed by the prestigious River Plate club and played for Argentina's record champions for four years. In the team around stars like Ermindo Onega and José Ramos Delgado , Vladislao Cap did not get beyond the role of a reserve player and only played sixty games in Argentina's football club in four years. After the end of his time at River Plate, Cap then played for another year for CA Vélez Sársfield before ending his career in 1966 at the age of 32.
National team
Between 1959 and 1962, Vladislao Cap made eleven international matches in the Argentine national football team . In the first year of his international career, he took part in the Copa América in his own country, which the Argentine selection promptly won. In the 3-1 win against Paraguay on March 22, 1959 in the Monumental Stadium in Buenos Aires, he scored his first and only international goal during the South American Championship. Three years later, national coach Juan Carlos Lorenzo appointed him to the South American squad for the World Cup in Chile . During the tournament, the defender played against England (1: 3) and Hungary (0: 0). Further World Cup games prevented Argentina from being eliminated early after the group stage. After the World Cup, Vladislao Cap's national team time also ended.
Coaching career
After the end of his playing days as a football player, Vladislao Cap became a coach. In 1968 he took over his first post as responsible head coach and from then on trained Ferro Carril Oeste . But he was denied great successes. In 1970 he was signed by the reigning Argentine champion Chacarita Juniors , but did not get beyond placements in his midfield. Between 1971 and 1972 he coached CA Independiente from his hometown of Avellaneda. With Independiente he reached the Argentine championship in the Metropolitano competition in 1971 with a first place one point ahead of Vélez Sársfield. With this he laid the foundation stone with Independiente for the successes in the Copa Libertadores in the following years, as one could qualify as national champion for this competition. However , he did not live to see victory in the Copa Libertadores in 1972 as the coach of Independiente, he was replaced by Pedro Dellacha in spring 1972 .
After coaching Deportivo Cali in Colombia from 1972 to 1973 , Cap became the Argentine national coach in 1974. Together with José Varacka, he held the office of national coach at the 1974 World Cup in Germany . However, the Argentines did not get beyond the intermediate round in the tournament and Vladislao Cap was soon no longer coach of the Argentine national team, he was replaced by César Luis Menotti , who led the Argentine team to the first world title in 1978. After a break of four years, Cap took over LDU Quito in Ecuador in 1978 and later Atlético Junior and CA Platense . However, these engagements only lasted a very short time. In 1982 he coached the two rivals River Plate and Boca Juniors for a short time. Edema was discovered while at Boca . Vladislao Cap died of this disease on September 14, 1982 at the age of 48.
