Bekai Camara

Alhaji Bekai Camara (born February 18, 1968 in Baja Kunda (according to another source: April 15, 1966), † March 6, 2011 in Banjul ) was a politician in the West African state of Gambia .

education

Camara attended primary school Baja Kunda Lower Basic School, followed by the St George's Secondary Technical School and then the Management Development Institute , where he graduated in gender equality and development ( English Diploma in Gender and Development ) and a Diploma in Business Administration ( English Diploma in Management Studies ). He then went to the University of the Gambia , where he graduated in population growth ( English Postgraduate Diploma in Population and Development on going ) gained. In Nigeria, he acquired knowledge of distance learning in modern media, and he also acquired knowledge of teaching environmental management.

Professional background

From 1988 to 1990 Camara worked as a freelance reporter for The Gambia Weekly (later: The Gambia Info ). As a broadcaster for Radio Gambia , where he worked from 1990 to 1994, he achieved national recognition for his contributions in Soninke . He then worked for the National Environment Agency (NEA), the national environmental authority, as a mediator and seminar leader on environmental issues ( English: Programmer Assistant Env. Education and Communication ) until 2003. Camara worked as an assistant director at Gambia Radio & Television Services (GRTS) from 2003 to 2007.

He also worked as President of the Gambia Association of the Physically Disabled ( German  Gambian Association for the physically disabled ).

In the 2007 parliamentary elections , he stood as a party member of the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC) in the constituency of Wuli East . He was able to assert himself against his opponent Suwaibou Touray ( NADD ) and gained a seat in the National Assembly . There he was deputy chairman of the environmental policy committee.

Shortly after his admission on February 27, 2011 to the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital in Banjul, Camara died after a short illness in early March 2011. He was honored with a state ceremony in the National Assembly before he was transferred to Baja Kunda for burial.
