David Baumgartner

David Baumgartner (born February 3, 1908 in Engi ; † December 10, 1999 there ; reformed , resident in Engi) was a Swiss politician (SP) .

biography

David Baumgartner was born on February 3, 1908 as the son of weaving worker David Baumgartner senior in Engi. Baumgartner became a carpenter and completed further training in Zurich . From 1949 to 1973 he was secretary of the construction and wood union in Glarus . In addition, he was a member of the criminal court from 1949 to 1963 and of the higher court of the Canton of Glarus from 1963 to 1978 . He was also active on the board of directors of Autobetrieb Sernftal AG and as President of the Glarus Forestry Association.

David Baumgartner, who married Emma, ​​the daughter of the electrician David Schiesser, in 1936, died on December 10, 1999 at the age of 92 in Engi.

Political functions

The member of the SP belonged to the Engi municipal council from 1944 to 1971 , and from 1953 as the municipality president . From 1947 to 1982 he was in the district administrator of the Canton of Glarus; he was a member of the road construction commission (from 1950), the tax appeals commission (from 1962) and various building commissions. In addition, he took a seat in the National Council from 1965 to 1978 , where he was a member of the Petitions and Alcohol Commission.

David Baumgartner was heavily involved in general social issues, for the expansion of social insurance , in promoting agriculture, forestry and mountain areas .
