David Bles
David Joseph Bles (born September 19, 1821 in The Hague ; † September 3, 1899 there ) was a Dutch painter, watercolorist, draftsman, etcher and lithographer.
Bles was born to Joseph David Bles and his wife Sara Wolf into a Jewish merchant family. The young David was admitted to the Hague Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten at the age of thirteen , where he studied from 1834 to 1840. From 1838 to 1841 he took lessons from Cornelis Kruseman . He then moved to Paris , where he was an apprentice to Joseph Nicolas Robert-Fleury from 1841 to 1843 .
From 1843 to 1845 he took lessons again at the Art Academy in The Hague. In 1845 he became a member of the Amsterdam Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten . In 1857, 1863, 1864, 1868 and 1869 he stayed in Paris , where he took part in the Salon de Paris of those years. In addition to oil painting, he dealt with watercolors, etchings and lithography.
Bles was appointed Officer of the Order of the Oak Crown in 1863.
His students included u. a. Fridolin Becker , Johan Braakensiek , Anthonius van Dormolen , Diederik Franciscus Jamin and Maurits Leon .
