Cornelis Kruseman

Cornelis Kruseman (born September 25, 1797 in Amsterdam , † November 14, 1857 in Lisse ) was a Dutch painter , draftsman , etcher , lithographer , silhouettist , paper cutter and art collector .

Born to Alexander Hendrik Kruseman (1765–1829) and Cornelia Bötger, Cornelis attended the drawing academy ( Amsterdamse Tekenacademie ) from the age of fourteen and received lessons from Charles Howard Hodges (1764–1837), Petrus Antonius Ravelli (1788–1861) and Jean Augustin Daiwaille (1786-1850).

In 1821 he toured Switzerland and Italy . Then Cornelis Kruseman came to Paris , where he visited the studios of Jacques-Louis David , Horace Vernet , Antoine-Jean Gros , Jean-Baptiste Isabey and Ary Scheffer . Back in the Netherlands, he settled in The Hague in 1825 .

In 1826 he published an illustrated book about his stay in Italy.

On October 3, 1832, he married Henriette Angelique Meijer. He spent the years 1841 to 1847 in Italy. From 1847 to 1854 he lived in The Hague and then in Lisse until his death.

His students included u. a. Herman Frederik Carel ten Kate , Jan Daniel Beynon and Raden Saleh .
