David John MacRae Carnegie, 14th Earl of Northesk (born November 3, 1954 , † March 28, 2010 ) was a Scottish peer .

life and career

Carnegie was the son of Robert Carnegie, 13th Earl of Northesk , and Jean Margaret MacRae. He attended Eton College and studied at University College London .

In 1979 he married Jacqueline Dundas Reid and had four children with her:

  • Alexander Robert Macrae Carnegie, Lord Rosehill (* 1980; † 2001)
  • Lady Sarah Louise Mary Carnegie (* 1982)
  • Lady Fiona Jean Elizabeth Carnegie (* 1987)
  • Lady Sophie Margaret Jean Carnegie (* 1990)

Due to the Peerage Act 1963 , membership in the House of Lords was associated with his titles . When the House of Lords Act 1999 abolished hereditary seats in Parliament, he was one of 92 hereditary peers chosen by the remaining hereditary peers to remain in the House of Lords . Carnegie was a member of the Conservative Party . In 2001, his son Alexander committed suicide. In 2010, his distant relative Patrick Carnegy inherited the title .
