David Degen (born February 15, 1983 in Liestal ) is a former Swiss football player and now a player advisor at SBE Management. Like his twin brother Philipp Degen , he was a national player .
Career
Degen played with FC Basel in the Swiss Super League from 2003 to 2006 . He had a contract until 2007, which he terminated prematurely. His position in Basel was right midfield , but he also played as a hanging tip in the storm .
In July 2006 he signed a contract with Borussia Mönchengladbach until 2009. On October 14, 2006, he played against VfL Wolfsburg for the first time in the Bundesliga and immediately scored his first goal. During the season he did not succeed in earning a regular place in the team. On May 10, 2007 Degen was taken out of the professional squad by head coach Jos Luhukay and trained for the amateurs. Degen played a total of 18 Bundesliga games for the "Fohlen", in which he scored two goals.
The Swiss international was loaned to his former club FC Basel for the 2007/08 season. After the loan ended, Degen moved to BSC Young Boys on a free transfer in August 2008 . At the Bernern, David Degen received a lot of match practice in over 100 games after a difficult start and showed good performances.
For the 2012/13 season Degen moved to FC Basel. He signed a three-year contract until June 30, 2015. At the end of the 2012/13 season , Degen became Swiss champions with FC Basel. During the long season with a total of 76 games (36 in the Super League, six in the Swiss Cup, twenty in the Champions League and Europa League, as well as 14 test games) Degen made a total of 58 appearances. In 2014 he was again Swiss champion with Basel, but with only a few appearances. For this he was again used in the Europa League, where he is the Swiss player with the most games (56/10).
In the overall statistics of Swiss players' participation in the European Cup, Degen (69/12) is fourth behind Pascal Zuberbühler, Johann Vogel and Benjamin Huggel. Degen ended his career as a professional footballer during the summer break of 2014. His contract with FC Basel was terminated.
