David Deutsch (Artist)

David Deutsch (born August 8, 1943 in Los Angeles , California USA ; lives in New York City ) is an American contemporary painter , kinetic and conceptual artist .

life and work

David Deutsch studied at the University of California in Los Angeles until 1966 and at the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles, California from 1966 to 1968.

He had his first solo exhibition in 1972 at the Michael Walls Gallery in Los Angeles.

David Deutsch grew up in Los Angeles and moved to New York soon after completing his education. In the 1960s and 1970s he was not only concerned with painting, but also with the optical effects of moving, painted objects.

In 1972 he was a participant in Documenta 5 in Kassel in the Idea + Idea / Light department with the kinetic object " Spinning Painting With Prop " made of wood fiber boards painted with acrylic paint and rotating with an electric motor .

Throughout his life, he developed a deep interest in depicting star and planetary systems. He created his own conceptual painting that depicted landscapes and large arrangements of small portraits with a telescopic view .

In his art, David Deutsch shows a fascination for the virtual nothing that seems big and endlessly deep, but is nevertheless perceived. He also works with series of edited photographs , including aerial photographs which he called " Surveillance " ( " monitor ") calls.
