David Alexander Cospatrick Douglas-Home, 15th Earl of Home KT , CVO , CBE (born November 20, 1943 in Westminster ) is a British politician, member of the House of Lords and businessman.

life and career

Douglas-Home is the only son of Prime Minister Alec Douglas-Home , the former 14th Earl of Home, and Elizabeth Alington, the daughter of Cyril Alington .

Lord Home married Jane Margaret née Williams-Wynne (* 1949) of the Williams-Wynn Baronets family in 1972 . The marriage resulted in three children:

  • Iona Katherine Douglas-Home (* 1980), ⚭ April 5, 2008 James Thomas Wingfield Hewitt (* 1979), heir to the Viscount Lifford title ;
  • Mary Elizabeth Douglas-Home (* 1982);
  • Michael David Alexander Douglas-Home, Lord Dunglass (* 1987), heir to the title.

He attended Eton and Christ Church Private School , Oxford .

He is Chairman of the Board of Directors of the private bank Coutts & Co and the Grosvenor Group . He is also the current President of the British Association for Shooting and Conservation and head of the Douglas family . In 2014 he was accepted into the Scottish Thistle Order .

Although his father had renounced the Earl dignity in 1963 , he only acquired the title Earl of Home and the seat in the House of Lords belonging to its subordinate title Baron Douglas of Douglas in 1995 when his father died. With the passage of the House of Lords Act 1999 , he lost the automatic seat in the House of Lords along with all other Hereditary Peers. However, he was elected as one of the 92 hereditary peers to remain in the House after the reform. This election came as part of the Conservative Party .
