David Gestetner
David Gestetner (Hungarian: Gestetner Dávid ; born March 20, 1854 in Csorna , Hungary, † March 18, 1939 London ) was a Hungarian inventor.
David Gestetner initially worked on the Vienna Stock Exchange and had to copy the stock market reports every day. From this activity he developed the first hectograph , in which instead of writing on paper, a wax template was used and this was used as a master copy.
Gestetner went to London, where in 1881 he founded a company that manufactured the stencils and pens for his process. By further developing the process, it was already possible in 1890 to produce 1200 copies per hour. His son Sigmund Gestetner (1897–1956) took over the company after him. The company worked as the NRG Group worldwide until 2008 and was eventually taken over by Ricoh .
