David Kelly (born July 11, 1929 in Dublin , † February 12, 2012 in Dublin ) was an Irish film and theater actor .

Life

Kelly attended a Catholic boys' school on Synge Street and began his career at the Gaiety Theater in Dublin at the age of eight . He played classics from Beckett to Shakespeare and had regular appearances in theater , film and television from 1959 . The IMDb film database lists one hundred films in which Kelly has appeared.

He was married to actress Laurie Morton since February 1961 and had two children.

Awards

For the British comedy Long Live Ned Devine! (Waking Ned) was Kelly 1999 for Best Second Leading Role for the Chlotrudis Award , Best Actor in a Comedy for a Golden Satellite Award, and with Ian Bannen , Fionnula Flanagan , Susan Lynch and James Nesbitt as Outstanding Acting Company for a Screen Actors Guild Award nominated. For his portrayal of grandfather in the children's book adaptation Charlie and the Chocolate Factory based on Roald Dahl , he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for the Irish Film and Television Award (IFTA) in 2005.
