David Klein

David Klein (born August 13, 1973 in Mulhouse , Haut-Rhin ) is a former French football player and current coach . He is currently the coach of the Valenciennes FC youth academy .

Career as a player

David Klein started playing football as a youth at Mulhouse FC . In 1992 he signed a professional contract with the then first division team Racing Strasbourg . However, until 1995 he was denied a position in the flagship club of Alsace. On July 22, 1995, David Klein came first for Strasbourg when he was in the 0-0 draw in the group game of the UI Cup , against Maccabi Petach Tikwa , in the starting eleven. In the 1995/96 season, David Klein also made his first division debut. On October 21, 1995 he was substituted on in the league game against SC Bastia in the 85th minute for Alexander Vencel . In the same season, Klein also played twice for the reserve eleven. In the 1996/97 season, Klein made eight appearances. He was also used once in the UI Cup . In the first half of the following season, Klein was denied a role in the professional team. However, he played nine times in the reserve team.

For this reason, Klein went to Toulouse FC during the winter break , but where he was denied an assignment. After half a year he moved to the second division AC Ajaccio , where Klein was now a regular goalkeeper. In his first season he got 32 missions and in the following season at least 30. For the 2000/01 season, Klein moved to FC Metz , where he was denied a regular place and only made two appearances. For this reason, he moved abroad for the 2001/02 season and hired the Scottish second division team Partick Thistle . After only half a year and five missions, David Klein returned to his French homeland and signed up for the then second division club FC Martigues . In his first six months, Klein only played twelve games. In the end there was relegation to the Championnat de France National , the third French league. In the 2002/03 season, Klein was now a regular player and made 32 appearances.

After this season, Klein left the southern French and moved to the then league rivals FC Valenciennes . In the northern French, Klein immediately became a regular player, but only made 29 appearances. In the following season, Klein made 37 appearances and contributed to the promotion to Ligue 2 . Klein made 36 appearances in the 2005/06 Ligue 2 season and made it through to Ligue 1 with Valenciennes FC .

Nevertheless, David Klein changed clubs and signed on with Chamois Niort . Klein became a regular goalkeeper there too. In the following season, Klein only made eleven appearances.

For the 2008/09 season, Klein returned to Racing Strasbourg, which had previously been relegated to Ligue 2. However, Klein only made three appearances in the reserve team. Klein ended his career at the end of the season.

Career as a coach

In the 2010/11 season, Klein occupied the post of goalkeeping coach at Racing Strasbourg. Since the 2011/12 season he has been working as a coach of the youth performance center ( Center de Formation ) of his former club Valenciennes FC.
