Life

Lascelles was born in Bayswater , London , to George Lascelles, 7th Earl of Harewood , and his first wife Marion Stein . He was baptized in All Saints' Church in Harewood , West Yorkshire . His father was a cousin of Queen Elizabeth II , which is why he holds a subordinate place in the British line of succession . His godparents were Elizabeth II - then The Princess Elizabeth, the Duchess of Edinburgh  - his great-grandmother Queen Mary , Margaret Hamilton-Russell, Viscountess Boyne, Benjamin Britten and his uncle Gerald Lascelles.

On February 12, 1979, he married Margaret Rosalind Messenger (* 1948). (Divorced in 1989) On March 11, 1990, he married Diane Jane Howse. His children are:

  • Lady Emily Tsering Shard, (born November 23, 1975 in Bath ), married with royal permission on February 12, 2008 to Matthew Shard (born 1975).
  • The Hon. Benjamin George Lascelles (born September 19, 1978 in Bath), film producer, with royal permission. marries Carolina Velez Robledo from Colombia on April 18, 2009 in Harewood House .
  • Alexander Edgar Lascelles, Viscount Lascelles (born May 13, 1980 in Bath).
  • The Hon. Edward David Lascelles (born November 19, 1982 in Bath).

Lascelles inherited the title of Earl of Harewood on the death of his father in 2011. His two youngest children are inherited from his title, the two older not because the parents were not married at the time of birth. The later marriage does not change that.
