David Lean (athlete)
David Lean ( David Francis Lean ; born August 22, 1935 ) is a retired Australian hurdler and sprinter .
At the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Vancouver in 1954 , he won gold in the 440-yard hurdles and bronze in the 4-by-110 and 4-by-440-yard relay.
In 1956 he was fifth in the 400-meter hurdles at the Olympic Games in Melbourne . In the 4 x 400 meter relay , he won the silver medal with the Australian team consisting of Leon Gregory , Lean, Graham Gipson and Kevan Gosper .
At the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Cardiff in 1958 , he won silver over 440 yard hurdles.
In 1954 he became national champion over the 440 yard hurdles.
