David M. Wilson

Sir David Mackenzie Wilson (born October 30, 1931 ) is a British medieval archaeologist . He researches and publishes in particular on Anglo-Saxon culture and the Viking Age .

Wilson was Professor of Medieval Archeology at University College London from 1971 to 1976 . From 1977 to 1992 he was director of the British Museum in London, he is a member of the British Academy , the Swedish Academy of Sciences , the Norwegian Academy of Sciences , a member of the Society of Antiquaries of London and a full member of the German Archaeological Institute and the Academia Europaea .

Wilson was raised to the nobility in 1984 as a Knight Bachelor ("Sir").
