David Profumo

David John Profumo, 6th Baron Profumo (born October 20, 1955 in London , United Kingdom ) is a British journalist and author .

Life

Profumo is the son of British politician John Profumo and actress Valerie Hobson .

After studying at Eton College (1968–1973), he completed his studies in 1977 at Magdalen College , Oxford, with a Bachelor and Master of Arts. Profumo then worked as an Assistant Master of English at Eton College (1978), at The Royal School in Shrewsbury (1978–1979) and as a lecturer in English at King's College London (1981–1983).

From 1982 to 1984 he worked as an editor for The Fiction Magazine . From 1985 Profumo's first literary works appeared, including a first novel and a short story volume. Profumo is a passionate fisherman and often takes up maritime themes in his works. In 1989 he received the Geoffrey Faber Memorial Prize for his novel Sea Music . Between 1987 and 1995 he was a columnist for the Daily Telegraph .

Since 1997 he has been a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature .

In 2001 Profumo survived a helicopter crash on Russia's Kola Peninsula , where he was on an expedition for The Field Magazine .

In 2006 his book Bringing the House Down: A Family Memoir appeared about the political overthrow of his father in the course of the Profumo affair . The book was created with the support of his father. Profumo also used the diaries of his late mother.

He has been married to Helen Fraser since 1979. Profumo lives in London and Perthshire with his wife and three children .
