David Rees Snell (born August 20, 1966 in Wichita , Kansas ) is an American actor .

Life

After David Rees Snell had an early desire to become an actor, he attended the state University of Kansas at Lawrence . There he studied theater. In the late 1980s, Snell moved to Los Angeles and played in small theaters. There Jay Karnes and he met Shawn Ryan , the creator of the US television series The Shield - Law of Violence , who directed one of the plays in which both starred.

When the offers for him became sparse, Snell returned to Wichita and appeared in industrial and commercials . He then moved to Kansas City , where he got a small role in the US TV movie Truman . His improvised dialogue was, however, subsequently cut out of the film. In 2001, Snell moved back to Los Angeles because he wanted to keep trying acting despite professional setbacks. After he had worked in a few short and television films from the mid-1990s, he received a leading role in the US television series The Shield in 2002 . He gained greater prominence through his role as the reserved detective Ronnie Gardocki .

His role was not initially intended in the present form. When the US television broadcaster FX Networks took on the series and called Shawn Ryan Snell, he was initially hired as a supporting actor. It was openly explained to him that they had no plans for his character, especially since he only joined the already extensive cast at the last minute. Ryan conveyed to Snell that the role was the best he could do for him, especially since the meager budget didn't allow any more speaking roles. But after Snell had already acted in a few episodes, he became a permanent member of the strike team occurring in the series and acted in almost all episodes. His name was also mentioned in the opening credits. In addition, there was a large following for the character he portrayed among the fans of the series.

Snell is also active as a voice actor, lending his voice to characters in short films, computer and video games.
