Jay Karnes (born June 27, 1963 in Omaha , Nebraska ) is an American actor .

Live and act

Jay Karnes attended the State University of Kansas at Lawrence . There he majored in theater and political science . In 1989 he finished his studies and went to Los Angeles . There he played in small theaters. One of the plays he starred in was staged by his roommate Shawn Ryan , the inventor and producer of the US television series The Shield .

From 1998 Karnes played first supporting roles in US television series . This was followed by further appearances in series and occasionally in movies . Eventually he was hired by Shawn Ryan for the television series The Shield , through which he gained great fame in his role as a professionally successful, but often socially incompetent and sexually frustrated Detective Dutch Wagenbach . After the series ended, Jay Karnes played a major supporting role in the US television series Sons of Anarchy by Kurt Sutter , one of the main screenwriters of The Shield .

Karnes is married to actress Julia Campbell , with whom he has two children.

  • While studying at the University of Kansas , Karnes befriended fellow student David Rees Snell , who like him moved to Los Angeles in the late 1980s and also played a leading role in the US television series The Shield .
