Shawn Ryan (born October 11, 1966 in Rockford , Illinois ) is an American television producer and screenwriter . He is the creator of the well-known US television series The Shield and the short-lived crime series The Chicago Code .

Live and act

Shawn Ryan graduated from Middlebury College , Vermont , USA , where he studied theater and economics . He began his television career as a contract writer for the US television series Nash Bridges . He then worked as a television producer for the series Angel - Jäger der Finsternis , for which he also wrote an episode. Then he conceived the television series The Shield , for which he acted as executive producer except for one episode and also wrote most of the episodes. For the television series The Unit he was hired as a show runner in 2006 together with David Mamet . From 2009 to 2011 he worked as a show runner for the television series Lie to Me . In 2011, he held the post of creator and executive producer on the short-lived Fox crime series The Chicago Code .

Shawn Ryan is married to actress Cathy Cahlin Ryan , who stars in the television series The Shield , and has two children with her.
