The Chicago Code (working title: Ride-Along ) is an American crime series directed by Shawn Ryan and produced by 20th Century Fox Television , a subsidiary of 20th Century Fox , for US broadcaster Fox and filmed on location in Chicago . It is about the police officers of the Chicago Police Department , often just called CPD, in the fight against crime and political corruption in the city. It is told through the eyes of three cop teams from their main workplace, the company car . In the US, the series started on February 7, 2011 on Fox.
action
The series shows the police work of the Chicago Police Department, among them local legend Jarek Wysocki, in the fight against crime and corruption in the political machinery of Chicago. Jarek has a lot of influence in the city thanks to his good relationship with Teresa Colvin, as she is not only his former partner, but also the chief of police in Chicago. Together they also want to solve and avenge the murder of Jarek's brother. Also in the department is Wysocki's current partner, a young and ambitious police officer named Caleb Evers. During their investigations, the detectives often meet Jarek's niece Vonda Wysocki, who has just started working for the police, and her partner Isaac Joiner, who is only too happy to take risks.
The undercover agent Chris Collier, acting in his undercover investigation under the name Liam Hennessey, retrieves information about Hugh Killian, the Irish mafia and their connection to corruption. The source of the corruption appears to be a powerful and influential Chicago politician, City Councilor Ronin Gibbons.
characters
- Jarek Wysocki
- He is a homicide detective in Chicago and is considered a legend there. He hates profanity and loves the White Sox . He and Colvin were partners when they started out as police officers and a close friendship developed between them. In addition to his normal investigations, he is looking for the murderers of his deceased brother, who also worked as a police officer. Jarek is divorced and engaged to a younger woman, but is still intimate with his ex-wife. In addition, he changes his partner every day, because they cannot cope with his fast-paced nature.
- Teresa Colvin
- She is Chicago's first woman police chief and chief of over ten thousand police officers. She is very ambitious to fearlessly question government officials or fire other officials whom she considers incompetent, even at the risk of making enemies in the department. The corruption in the city has destroyed her parents' business and later her marriage, whereby she has made it her personal task to rid the city of it.
- Caleb Evers
- He is a young and avid Homicide Detective and Wysocki's current partner. In addition, he is desperately trying to do justice to the legendary Wysocki. He later won over both Wysocki, despite the fact that he was a Cubs fan, and Colvin with his powers of observation.
- Vonda Wysocki
- She is Jarek's niece and has just graduated from police academy. Her father was killed while doing his job when she was a little girl. She was therefore raised by her uncle, who also supported her in training to become a police officer. As the series progresses, she and Isaac get together.
- Isaac Joiner
- He is Vonda's partner and a young and ambitious detective. With his way of taking a big risk with his cases in order to close them, Jarek worries about his niece. As the series progresses, he and Vonda get together.
- Chris Collier
- He is an undercover agent on the homicide squad and currently works under the cover name Liam Hennessey in the Irish mafia as a seedy petty criminal.
- Ronin Gibbons
- He is a real estate tycoon who has a lot of influence and power in Chicago through his political position as a city councilor. He has been in office for over 20 years, to the delight of some criminals. By getting in the way of Teresa and Jarek in their plan to free the city from corruption, the two see him as the source of this.
production
After Shawn Ryan had presented his idea for a series to Fox in the summer of 2009 , he was commissioned to write a script in August 2009 . In early January 2011, Ryan got the green light to shoot a pilot episode . Regarding the Chicago location, Ryan said, "It's a city that I'm very familiar with and that I haven't seen much on TV," and that Chicago is "the center of the universe." The casting began a few days later, and on February 8, 2010, Todd Williams finally got the role of Isaac Joiner . As director of the pilot episode was Charles McDougall dedicated. In March, Matt Lauria and Devin Kelley were recruited for the roles of Caleb Evers and Vonda Wysocki , respectively, and Jason Clarke was later given the lead role of Jarek Wysocki . In the same month Billy Lush and Jennifer Beals were able to prevail in the casting against the other candidates and were hired for the roles of Liam Hennesey and Teresa Colvin . In April, Delroy Lindo got the role of the corrupt city council member Ronin Gibbons .
The shooting of the pilot episode began in mid-April and ended in early May 2010. After viewing the pilot episode, it was finally ordered as a series by Fox, with a start date for the so-called midseason was announced a month later. Filming for the remaining twelve episodes began in August and ended in December 2010. One of the main locations was the Northwestern University School of Law in Near North Side . In November 2010, February 7, 2011, the day after the Super Bowl XLV , was selected as the start of the series. After the first episode aired, the theme song was changed slightly and Billy Corgan sang the remaining episodes .
On May 10, 2011, Fox announced the cancellation of the series at the annual Upfronts. The reasons given were the low ratings and the insufficient number of slots in the next season, which were caused by the music show The X Factor .
