David S. Liem

David S. Liem (actually Sioe Sing Liem ; born September 17, 1937 in Java ; † June 11, 2017 in Potomac , Maryland ) was an American herpetologist of Indonesian origin.

Life

In 1964 Liem emigrated to the United States . In 1969 he received his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois. PhD.

In 1972 he discovered the southern gastric nesting frog ( Rheobatrachus silus ) in Queensland , Australia, which he first described the following year and for which he established the subfamily Rheobatrachinae in 1976 together with William Ronald Heyer . From August 1973 to July 1974 he worked for the Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries in Port Moresby , Papua New Guinea , on a project in the Garu Wildlife Management Area to assess the proportion and value of wild animals as a food source in relation to others Determine resources. In Australia, he worked as an environmental scientist at the University of Queensland in Brisbane .
