David Shand (bishop)

David Hubert Warner Shand ( April 6, 1921 - July 8, 2011 ) was an Australian Anglican clergyman and assistant bishop of the Anglican Church of Australia .

Life

After attending school, Shand attended a seminary of the Anglican Church and was ordained a priest in 1948 . He was then assistant pastor and chaplain ( Assistant Curate ) of Lutwyche, Brisbane , before serving for many years in numerous parishes in Brisbane. Afterwards he was pastor from 1966 to 1969 from South Yarra and then from 1969 to 1973 from Brightin , two suburbs of Melbourne .

In 1973 he was called to be Bishop of St. Arnaud , before this diocese was assigned to the diocese of Bendigo in 1976. Between 1974 and 1984 he was also chairman of the Anglican Church of Australia's Supreme Authority for Religious Education. He then returned to Melbourne, where he first was pastor of Mt. Waverley and then from 1978 to 1985 Assistant Bishop for the southern region. During this time he was also chairman of the Christian Association for Television from 1983 to 1985 .

Most recently, he was Assistant Bishop of Geelong from 1985 until his retirement in 1988 .
