David Wiemann (born June 15, 1885 in Paramaribo in Dutch Guiana, today Suriname , † May 8, 1948 in Meisenheim (Glan)) was a German teacher and recreational naturalist.

Life

Wiemann was the son of a missionary from the Moravian Brethren . He spent his youth in Kleinwelka (Saxony), where he also went to school. From 1899 to 1905 he completed training in the Moravian teachers' seminar in Niesky (Upper Lusatia). From 1905 to 1912 he worked as a teacher at the private secondary school in Königsfeld (Baden) . From 1912 until his death, Wiemann taught as a specialist teacher for biology and geography at the Städtische Realschule in Meisenheim, and in 1926 and 1927 at the Staatl. Higher boys school in Bad Kreuznach . He completed his military service from 1914 to 1919. In his free time he devoted himself to the intensive study of the flora and fauna of the Nahe area , as well as geological observations. Wiemann was also artistically gifted (music, landscape painting). Because of this versatility, he showed a strong interest in ecological issues and in the plant sociology that was developing at the time (personal contacts with Josias Braun-Blanquet ). His significant predecessor in researching the flora of the Nahe area was Ludwig Geisenheyner .
