Career

Davide Fontolan began his career in 1982 at the then fourth division AC Legnano , for whom he made his debut in the 1982/83 season in the C2 series and immediately scored a goal in his first league game. At the end of the season Fontolan rose with the club in the third division. In the next three years he became more and more an important link in the midfield of the Lombards and sat in the scene as a regular player. For the 1986/87 season he went to AC Parma , where he scored six goals in 31 league games in the C1 series and was poached after one season by the second division Udinese Calcio . He also had a solid season in Friuli with five goals. After only one season, he also turned his back on the Bianconeri and left the club for Genoa , where he signed a contract with CFC Genoa . At Rossoblu , Fontolan made the final breakthrough in Serie B and contributed to promotion to Serie A with six goals in 35 games .

The 1989/90 season ended for Fontolan and CFC Genoa with the league in the top division and the midfielder was then committed by Inter Milan . In his debut season he did not play a competitive game with the Nerazzurri and Fontolan ran in a game of the Coppa Italia for the first time for the Milanese on the field in August 1991 . In the following five seasons he was mostly part of the regular team at Inter . His greatest achievement in his engagement in Milan was winning the 1993/94 UEFA Cup . For the 1996/97 season he went to Bologna FC and completed four seasons there in the top division. For the 2000/01 season Fontolan moved to Cagliari Calcio , where he let his career end with nine inserts and two goals in Serie B.

Fontolan was never nominated for an Italian youth national team during his career. In 1993 he was appointed by Arrigo Sacchi for an international match against Portugal in the squadra Azzurra , but not used.

His brother Silvano was also a professional footballer.
