Davis Dimock

Davis Dimock (born September 17, 1801 in Exeter , Luzerne County , Pennsylvania , †  January 13, 1842 in Montrose , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . In 1841 and 1842 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Davis Dimock attended public schools in Montrose and then the local Susquehanna County Academy . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1833, he began to work in Montrose in this profession. He also worked in the publishing industry. Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Party . In 1834 he was named district treasurer in Susquehanna County .

In the 1840 congressional election , Dimock was elected to the 17th  constituency of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Samuel Wells Morris on March 4, 1841 . He was able to exercise his mandate in Congress until his death on January 13, 1842. That period was fraught with tension between President John Tyler and the Whigs . In addition, a possible annexation of the Republic of Texas , which has been independent of Mexico since 1836, was already being discussed.
