Samuel Wells Morris

Samuel Wells Morris (born September 1, 1786 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , †  May 25, 1847 in Wellsboro , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1837 and 1841 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Samuel Morris attended Princeton College . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer, he began to work in Wellsboro in this profession. In his new home he was a district judge, district treasurer and postman of Wellsboro between 1808 and 1813. He also became a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives . Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party .

In the congressional election of 1836 , Morris was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 17th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded John Laporte on March 4, 1837 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1841 . In 1840 he renounced another candidacy. After his time in the US House of Representatives, Samuel Morris was no longer politically active. He died in Wellsboro on May 25, 1847.
